Together for a safe future - Axelent supports a children’s home for girls in Laos

In the village of Phon Hang in Laos, the organization Touk för Livet runs a family home for girls who have been rescued from trafficking. Since 2019, a safe and supportive environment has been offered here, where recovery, education, and long-term stability are at the center. Through our sponsorship, Axelent wants to help give more girls the opportunity for a new start in life.

A place for recovery and hope for the future

At the Touk för Livet family home, Touk and her husband Samuel Olofsson have the main responsibility. At the home, the girls are met by adults with a deep understanding of traumatic experiences. The treatment strategy can be summarized in four key words: recovery, safety, education, and long-term stability.

“Our goal is that every girl should be seen, respected, and supported at every step along life’s path, so that old fears can slowly but surely loosen their grip,” says Samuel Olofsson, head of the family home, Touk för Livet.

All girls who are admitted receive support in obtaining valid ID documents and learning Lao, the country’s main language. These two components are crucial in order to begin primary school. In Laos, as everywhere in the world, education is the key to the future.

Concrete results and more opportunities ahead

At present, sixteen girls live at the family home. Seventeen girls have already moved on to independent lives with their own means of support. Two of them are currently pursuing higher education in Thailand and at a university in Laos, respectively.

During the spring of 2026, construction of a large new building is underway, including bedrooms and classrooms, creating opportunities for the organization Touk för Livet to gradually expand its work.

The foster parents and staff work closely with local schools. To further strengthen the girls’ health, the organization has signed its own healthcare agreement with the responsible authorities a solution that functions as a healthcare guarantee while keeping costs down.
