Axelent supports Nexans zero accident vision

Nexans has a clear zero accident vision and is making major investments in machine safety. Their high-tech production site in Grimsås, Sweden is in constant development. Together with Axelent, they installed modular safety systems built from standard components, making them easy to adapt as production changes.

About Nexans

Nexans is one of the world’s leading producers of cables and cabling systems, playing a key role in global electrification and the transition to renewable energy. In Grimsås, Sweden, the company operates a complete hub with research and development, its own laboratory and advanced production. Here they manufacture power and installation cables, alarm and security cables, automotive cables as well as fibre and optical cables. Every product is developed with innovation and quality in mind.

Safety is the starting point at Nexans

For Nexans, safety is more than a requirement. It is a core value. The company has a clear zero accident vision and works systematically to create a safe working environment. All employees and visitors are encouraged to report potential risks through the SUSA (Safe Unsafe Act) system. Thorough risk assessments are conducted before every maintenance task.

The large-scale Program 66 project is another strong example of this commitment. It upgrades the safety of 66 machine lines over six years with a total investment of SEK 60 million.

Collaboration that delivered results

When Nexans in Grimsås decided to review safety around its machine lines, they needed a solution that could be precisely adapted to their unique production environment. Close collaboration with Axelent was key. With access to Axelent’s drawing application Safety Design, Nexans could create guarding solutions tailored to both their working environment and safety requirements.

“It was a real advantage to be able to design the guards directly in their system. It saved time and made it easy to get exactly what we needed,” says Peter Kebke, Project Manager at Nexans.

The result was shorter lead times, greater precision and most importantly a safer environment for everyone on the shop floor.

Solving the safety challenge without slowing production

Nexans production environment involves handling large cable drums and heavy machinery on a daily basis. This demands robust safety systems without disrupting production flow. The main challenge was to create strong yet adaptable barriers that could be modified as production needs evolved.

“We needed a system that could be adapted to our floor layout and easily rebuilt if necessary. Axelent’s safety systems were the perfect fit because they are built from standard components, making them both flexible and easy to update,” says Peter Kebke.

With fast deliveries, high usability and the ability to produce their own layouts, Nexans has established a safer workflow that is quick, efficient and sustainable over time.
