Safety That Keeps the Flow Running

Axelent's range cover all gaps

In warehouse automation, safety is critical, but it must not stand in the way of production. For Movu Robotics, finding the balance between a safe working environment and high system availability was one of the biggest challenges when designing a new solution for the customer Arvato.

Their goal was clear: create a solution where personnel can work safely, prevent risks, and keep the entire flow running.

“The possibility of using many components from Axelent’s range makes it possible to protect all danger zones with high precision in the smallest possible space. This allows for a good overview of the warehouse and machinery, while maintaining the appropriate safety distances to prevent reaching into hazardous areas. Correct use of physical safety solutions and access points can effectively minimize unnecessary downtime.”

Balancing safety and productivity

Automated warehouses are complex systems where every unplanned stop can lead to major costs in time, lost capacity and increased risk for disruptions in subsequent processes.

“When we think about machine safety, it’s not just about regulations and standards, but about integrating safety solutions that make it possible to work safely without disrupting production.”

- Kamil Wojcik, Movu Robotics

Traditional safety solutions risk becoming a bottleneck, as they often require shutting down the entire facility for maintenance or service. For Movu Robotics, it was crucial to integrate machine guarding and risk prevention measures already in the design phase to create a flexible solution that kept the flow running.

Optimized safety zones

With Axelent’s modular safety system, Movu Robotics was able to create protection that both meets all safety requirements and allows production to continue even during interventions.

The solution included:

  • Physical safety fencing and guarding: prevents unauthorized access to risk areas
  • Fall protection: secures workstations and walkways against falling goods
  • Interlock and RFID solutions: shut down only the zone where intervention is needed, allowing production to continue in the rest of the warehouse

“In automated warehouses, where systems are often complex and extensive, it is important to protect against unintentional start-up of the shuttle system when the operator is inside the facility. Therefore, we use solutions such as interlock doors, operating mode control, and RFID-based access to ensure operator safety during all interventions.”

Safety that enables better flow

By integrating risk prevention and safety guarding from the very beginning of the design phase, Movu Robotics has created a solution where people and machines can work side by side  without compromise.

Results for Arvato:

  • Fewer unplanned stops: higher productivity and more predictable flows
  • Faster interventions: maintenance and service can be carried out without unnecessary downtime
  • Safer work environment: reduced risk of incidents and improved employee safety
  • Higher system availability: the system continues running in unaffected zones, minimizing costly downtime
